About the Farm
Background
2 Acres Farm began as a small homestead focused on raising poultry and eggs. Over time, they expanded their operations to include summer vegetables and pastured pork, with plans to introduce grass-finished lamb in the near future.
Practices
Poultry is raised outside on pasture in portable 'chicken tractors' that protect them from predators while allowing them to forage for grass, clover, bugs, and worms, supplemented with locally available grain. The chickens are moved daily to fresh pasture. Laying hens are free-ranged within a portable electric fence that is relocated weekly. No petroleum fertilizers or chemical pesticides are used on crops. In winter, laying chickens fertilize the garden by scratching and tilling compost added during the summer.
The Rest
Whole chickens are processed in the spring and fall, vacuum sealed, and sold ready to cook. Eggs are available daily at the farm stand from April to November. Plans are in place to raise pastured pork and grass-finished lamb on another property due to space requirements.
