About the Farm
Background
The land has a long-standing history of farming dating back to 1927 when it produced alfalfa hay, contributing to Gilbert's reputation as the 'Hay capital of the world.' Over the years, a small farmhouse and a tractor shed were added, marking the farm's evolution. Today, it stands as the flagship farm for the Arizona Urban Agriculture Foundation and the heartbeat of the Agritopia neighborhood.
Practices
Certified Organic methods are employed to cultivate a variety of crops, ensuring the health of the soil and the produce. The farm emphasizes community involvement through Farm Box memberships, a community garden, educational experiences, events, and volunteer programs. This interconnected approach not only nurtures the land but also strengthens the bonds within the community.
The Rest
Visitors can explore the farm's serene community garden, enjoy onsite restaurants, and participate in free farm tours every 2nd Wednesday of the month at 10am. Additionally, Farm Night with local vendors takes place every 2nd Wednesday from 5pm-8pm. The farm serves as a vibrant gathering place, fostering a sense of community and shared passion for urban agriculture.
