About the Farm
Background
Volunteer firefighters and paramedics, Scott and Deb Apthorp, fulfilled Deb's childhood dream of a reindeer farm in 2012. The farm is owned, operated, and staffed by first responders, with a strong focus on community service and charitable contributions. Since its inception, the farm has supported numerous charities, even during the COVID-19 pandemic through virtual events. A notable historical piece on the farm is the Boston Store Santa Chair, purchased from 'Santa' Vern Johnson, which has been restored and is displayed in the Santa house.
Practices
The farm's philosophy is inspired by the Hawaiian word 'Kahu,' which means guardian, protector, and steward. This philosophy emphasizes treating animals with love and respect, viewing them as cherished beings rather than property. The farm is dedicated to the health and well-being of its reindeer, focusing on education and maintaining high standards of care.
The Rest
The farm offers unique experiences such as reindeer encounters and Santa visits. They also have a gift shop and engage in professional TV work. A beautiful porch lamp from a historic farmhouse adds to the farm's charm, symbolizing the farm's dedication to preserving history and community heritage.
