About the Farm

Background

The farm has been operated continuously by the Averill family since the land was purchased in 1746 from the holdings of Chief Waramaug. Initially a dairy farm, it has evolved over the years into a 260-acre property primarily focused on fruit orchards, hay, and Christmas trees. Tyson Averill, representing the 10th generation, runs the farm with his wife Jennifer, father Sam, mother Susan, and several employees.

Practices

The farm cultivates apples and pears in a 30-acre orchard, offering both picked fruit and pick-your-own options. Over 100 varieties of apples are grown, with about 20 available for customers to pick. The farm also produces its own cider, apple cider donuts, and homemade jams and jellies. Additionally, hay and Christmas trees are part of the farm's diverse production.

The Rest

The farm stand is open seasonally from mid-August through December 24, and they participate in local farmers markets starting in May. Visitors can enjoy pick-your-own apples and pears in September and October, and cut-your-own Christmas trees from Thanksgiving until December 24. The farm also sells locally-sourced products such as maple syrup, honey, cheddar cheese, garlic, potatoes, tomatoes, and various seasonal items like pumpkins, gourds, and mums.
