About the Farm
Background
The apiary faced escalating issues with robbing bees since 2011, leading to the closure of Alameda County apiaries. Despite these challenges, honey production continues in North Oakland and North Berkeley, offering extremely local honey specific to those areas. The Alameda County Beekeepers Association, a 100-year-old organization, supports beekeepers and promotes beekeeping education throughout the Bay Area.
Practices
The bees are free-range, non-pesticide, non-antibiotic, non-smoking, and non-high fructose corn syrup-fed, living in bottomless hives. They forage in local flower gardens and orchards, producing raw honey that is only extracted, strained, and bottled in a stainless steel kitchen.
The Rest
Honey is available in new, glass, one-pound jars for $20.00, with larger quantities available by arrangement. The apiary emphasizes the importance of extremely local honey, which cannot be delivered outside the bees' range area. The Alameda County Beekeepers Association offers beekeeping demonstrations, lectures, and programming to educate the community.
