About the Farm
Background
Ben Bauman started Bauman Orchards in 1929 with 20 acres and a 10-acre apple orchard. Over the years, the business expanded with additional acreage and plantings. In 1961, Ben's son Marion took over, introducing dwarf and semi-dwarf trees and diversifying into peaches, plums, and sweet corn. The next generation, Doug and Bill, joined in the late 1980s, further expanding the orchard and building additional storage. By 2003, the orchard grew to 117 acres with 20,000 apple trees and 3,000 peach trees. Today, the orchard spans 260 acres with 70,000 apple trees and 12,000 peach trees, now managed by the fourth generation.
Practices
The orchard employs a mix of traditional and modern agricultural practices, including the use of dwarf and semi-dwarf trees to optimize space and yield. They have their own packing line and use a UV light machine called CiderSure for cider production, which preserves the natural flavor without heat pasteurization.
The Rest
The orchard offers a variety of seasonal fruits, homemade pies, cookies, and gift baskets at their year-round retail farm market in Rittman, OH. They also have two seasonal farm market locations: Scenic Ridge Fruit Farm in Jeromesville, OH, and Corner Market in Rittman. Wholesale customers can receive deliveries across Ohio and neighboring states. The orchard prides itself on customer service and quality produce.
