About the Farm
Background
Bean 'n Berries farm is dedicated to the memory of Memorie King, a beloved individual whose spirit continues to inspire the farm's community. The farm honors her through various memorials and celebrations, including a scholarship at the North Carolina Herb Association established by her husband, Loch Hoffman.
Practices
The farm is in the process of transitioning to silvaculture, a method that integrates trees and shrubs into agricultural landscapes to enhance biodiversity and ecosystem health. They are committed to growing chemical-free produce, ensuring that their vegetables, fruits, and blueberries are cultivated without synthetic pesticides or fertilizers.
The Rest
Visitors are encouraged to participate in 'pick your own' and 'pick your share' activities, with prior arrangements. The farm also features a herb barn shrine and hosts the Memfest Celebration in honor of Memorie King. Postcards and other memorabilia are available for purchase to support the memorial initiatives.
