About the Farm
Background
Tom Bennett, a first-generation farmer and former Marine, started the farm in 2012 to provide high-quality food for his family. The farm quickly grew from a personal project to supplying bulk whole and half hogs to around 50 families per year by 2016. By 2017-18, the farm expanded into selling cuts at farmers markets, and in 2018, Tom left his off-farm job to focus on farming full-time. By 2021, the farm served over 20,000 customers, thanks to the support of the community.
Practices
The farm employs rotational grazing for pigs, moving them to fresh pasture every two weeks to protect the soil, ensure fresh vegetation, and break up parasite life cycles. Pigs are supplemented with a 16% protein, non-medicated, non-GMO grain ration. Chickens are raised in mobile, open-floored pens that are moved daily to provide access to insects and green forage. They are fed a 19% protein, non-medicated, non-GMO grain ration. The farm adheres to high standards of animal welfare, using antibiotics only when absolutely necessary and ensuring humane handling during processing.
The Rest
The farm welcomes questions and has an open-door policy for customers and animal rights groups by appointment. They are members of the American Pastured Poultry Producers Association (APPPA) and prioritize customer service, honesty, and transparency. The farm offers regional delivery and nationwide shipping, making it easier for customers to buy from a local farm.
