About the Farm
Background
Big Star Farms is a family-owned venture started by a husband-wife duo with deep roots in agriculture. The idea for the farm took shape during a school trip chaperoned by one of the founders, who realized the importance of reconnecting children with nature. This epiphany led to the establishment of a farm that not only produces fresh, locally-sourced foods but also offers educational and engaging farm activities for visitors.
Practices
The farm employs rotational grazing to rebuild soil and restore native grasslands, focusing on regenerative practices. Their dairy cows, which are grass-fed Jersey and Gyr crosses, are milked daily to provide nutrient-dense raw milk through a herdshare program.
The Rest
Big Star Farms offers a variety of agritourism experiences, including farm education, pumpkin patches, flower picking, and farm camps. They aim to create a welcoming environment where visitors can unwind, unplug, and enjoy the simple pleasures of farm life. The farm also hosts school field trips and homeschool days to foster a deeper connection to the land and agriculture.
