About the Farm
Background
Blossom Bluff Orchards, located on the bluff of the Kings River in sunny central California, is currently under the stewardship of the Loewen family—siblings Bryce and Renata, and their parents, Ted and Fran. The farm's roots run several generations deep.
Practices
In stark contrast to the industrial and chemically based corporate farming that dominates California's central valley, Blossom Bluff Orchards is a bio-diverse oasis teeming with life. The family, who are also residents of the farm, have a deep commitment to natural agriculture. For the sake of their own health, the health of their workers, and the local environment, they chose to eschew conventional growing practices. The farm has been certified organic by CCOF since 2006.
The Rest
During the summer, leftover peaches, plums, nectarines, and apricots are hand-cut, pitted, and dried naturally in the sun on wooden raisin trays. In the cooler fall and winter months, persimmons and mandarins are sliced into thin disks and dried using an industrial-grade dehydrator. All dried fruit sold is unsulfured and certified organic by CCOF.
