About the Farm
Background
Blue Moon began in 2004 on rented acreage south of Madison and moved to its current location in the Town of Dunn in 2007. Founded by Kristen, who started her farming career as an apprentice at Roxbury Farm CSA in New York, the farm has grown from a 1-acre plot to over 6 acres of intensive production. Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) has been central to its operations, with both on-farm and market CSA programs. Over the years, Blue Moon has been recognized in various publications and has received several awards, including the Local Hero Award from Edible Madison in 2015.
Practices
Blue Moon follows organic farming practices and is committed to being certified organic. The farm emphasizes the importance of community and stewardship, with a focus on intensive production on small acreage. The team, including assistant managers, field employees, and worker shares, works collaboratively to maintain the farm's high standards. The farm's philosophy revolves around the CSA model, fostering a strong connection between the land and the community.
The Rest
Blue Moon offers organic seedlings for sale and participates in the Westside Community Market in Madison. The farm also hosts a Farm Stand in the spring for organic seedling needs. Blue Moon has been featured in various media outlets and podcasts, highlighting its community engagement and farming practices. The farm invites new members to join its CSA program and participate in seasonal events and activities.
