About the Farm
Background
Since 2009, the farm has operated a 'herd share' program, allowing members to purchase a share of the herd and receive fresh raw milk. The milking parlor, built in 2008, ensures the milk is processed and cooled immediately after milking.
Practices
The herd, consisting mainly of Jersey cows, is grass-fed during the summer months. The farm grows its own open-pollinated non-GMO corn for silage and grain, as well as hay for winter feeding. Additionally, non-GMO soybeans, rye, oats, barley, sorghum/sudan grass, and flax seed are cultivated to enhance the nutritional profile of the milk, particularly increasing Omega 3 content.
The Rest
The farm encourages herd share owners to participate in the full farm experience, fostering a community of healthy milk drinkers. Members often share rides to pick up each other's milk, emphasizing the cooperative spirit of the program.
