About the Farm
Background
Established in 2018, this small farm in Sutherlin, Virginia, aims to serve 10-20 shareholders with farm products throughout the year. Known for its commitment to growing the cleanest, tastiest, most nutrient-dense food, the farm brings baked goods and colorful chicken eggs to the Downtown South Boston Farmers Market every Saturday. The farm is certified Clean & Green 2018 by the state of Virginia.
Practices
The farm partners with nature and natural systems to develop a farm ecosystem focused on soil health and animal welfare. Chickens, representing heritage, rare, and endangered breeds from around the world, range on pasture year-round and are supplemented with Non-GMO feed and fermented grains from Sunrise Farms. The birds are not vaccinated and receive no medicated feed. Baked goods are made with local, organic flour from Lindley Mills in Graham, NC, and are yeast-risen and fermented for at least 24 hours without added sugar.
The Rest
The farm offers Egg and Artisan Bread CSA shares and encourages customers to become shareholders. Duck and goose eggs, along with market garden CSA shares, are expected to be available soon. The farm's colorful chicken eggs are produced by a carefully curated selection of laying hens from various international breeds. The farm is active on social media and offers a newsletter for updates.
