About the Farm
Background
Stonewall Preserve is part of The Center for Discovery, a non-profit organization designated as a Center of Excellence by the New York State Department of Health and OPWDD. The Center has a long history of innovation in curriculum development, program implementation, and assistive technology, leading to significant breakthroughs and life-changing opportunities. Since its inception, it has grown from 25 employees in 1980 to over 1,700 employees in 2023, becoming the largest private sector employer in Sullivan County, New York.
Practices
The farm integrates a biodynamic agricultural program, emphasizing the interconnectedness of farming practices, ecology, and human health. The residents, who live and work together on the farm, contribute to raising livestock, laying hens, and honeybees, fostering a community that values compassion and connectedness.
The Rest
Located on 1,500 acres in the Mid-Hudson Region, less than two hours from New York City, The Center for Discovery serves 1,200 children and adults annually. The organization is known for its cutting-edge care and education for medically and behaviorally complex individuals, and it has generated significant economic impact for the State of New York.
