About the Farm
Background
Chubby Cheeks Farm is a multi-generation, family-owned farm located in the secluded and pristine Willcox Playa, Arizona. Known for its commitment to bio-dynamic farming, the farm has cultivated a reputation for raising heritage breeds of livestock and producing high-quality, nutrient-dense foods.
Practices
Heritage breeds of cattle, goats, pigs, and chickens free-range on open pastures. The Jersey dairy herds and beef cattle are grass-fed exclusively, avoiding grains, soy, corn, molasses, or chemicals of any kind. The Jersey dairy herd has been beta-casein tested positive for the A2A2 trait, while the beef cattle genetics were selected for micro-marbleization, yielding tender and flavorful beef. Milk-fed heritage pigs receive a daily ration of milk kefir from the farm's Jersey herd, alfalfa, fermented barley, and have free access to live, fresh spirulina in their drinking ponds. This diet produces pork suitable for curing in the old-world Spanish Jamon Iberico tradition. Pasture-raised, free-ranging chickens share a similar diet to the pigs, supplemented by foraging for bugs and worms.
The Rest
Current availability includes beef, pork, and goat meat, with eggs, chicken, and vegetables expected in the fall of 2014. The farm also offers classes on growing and preparing uncompromised foods.
