About the Farm
Background
Cloverleigh Farm began in 2014 after Susan Mitchell moved to Connecticut in 2010, bringing her experience from farming in New York's Hudson Valley. The farm is now located on a historic property in Columbia, CT, where white Europeans have farmed since 1812, though the land was originally home to the Mohegan Tribe. The farm has grown through community support and was a recipient of a New England Farmer microgrant in 2020 by American Farmland Trust.
Practices
Certified organic by Baystate Organic Certifiers, Cloverleigh Farm handles disease and pest issues using products approved by the National Organic Program. The farm has also signed the CT NOFA Farmer's Pledge, committing to farming, marketing, and land stewardship in accordance with sound ecological and economic principles. The fertility of the soil and health of both plants and people is central to their production standards.
The Rest
A Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program is the heart of Cloverleigh Farm, offering summer and fall season memberships for weekly produce pickups. The farm also collaborates with Ramble Creek Farm, allowing CSA members to purchase pasture-raised chicken, turkey, pork, grass-fed beef, and culinary mushrooms. The farm aims to connect people to a place where they can meet their farmer, see a small farm operation in person, and enjoy fresh, flavorful produce.
