Concrete Beet Farmers CSA

Started by six young entrepreneurs from the Twin Cities in the Spring of 2011, this urban farm is located in the Midtown Phillips neighborhood of South Minneapolis. The farm aims to provide affordable, fresh produce to local residents and serves as an educational tool and community gathering place. In its initial year, it operated primarily through the CSA model, offering 10 shares of produce at two membership levels. Additional produce is sold through a buyers club or directly to small cafes and restaurants.

The farm employs growing techniques that maximize space efficiency through vertical gardening and succession planting. It is designed with the goals of ecological, social, and financial sustainability in mind, focusing on building soil and air quality without the use of chemical inputs.

The farm documents its growth process as a model for future farmers interested in providing affordable food to local communities. It encourages community involvement and offers opportunities for people to visit and learn more about urban farming.
