About the Farm
Background
Connolly Ranch was established in 1870 by Irish immigrants Patrick and Margaret Connolly, who homesteaded in Corral Hollow Canyon. For over 150 years and through five generations, the family has maintained the ranch based on principles of preservation, conservation, sustainability, and responsible animal husbandry. Today, it remains one of the oldest continuously family-operated ranches in California, run by Mark Connolly, his wife Celeste, and their daughters Katie and Bridget.
Practices
Connolly Ranch raises Black Angus cattle on open range land, where the animals graze exclusively on natural grasses from birth until harvest. The cattle are never kept in feedlots and are not fed corn or grain. Supplementation is limited to salt blocks and occasional locally grown hay, primarily during gathering or drought conditions. The ranch strictly avoids the use of hormones, implants, antibiotics, and animal by-product supplements. Adherence to current veterinary and animal practice guidelines ensures the cattle are healthy, well cared for, and humanely treated.
The Rest
Connolly Ranch sells its beef locally, offering cuts that are vacuum-packaged, frozen, and boxed. The beef is known for being young, lean, and smaller in size. The ranch emphasizes its commitment to providing truly locally raised, all-natural, all grass-fed beef. Customers can find more information and place orders through the ranch's website or via email.
