About the Farm
Background
The Francia Family farm, established in 1926, is located in the residential neighborhoods of Sunnyvale, California. Originally, the family raised sugar beets on their Mountain View land and continue to harvest Blenheim apricots from a 10-acre orchard. The farm is managed by Joe and Ben Francia, who fondly recall the days when El Camino Real was a dirt road and the area was known as the Valley of Heart's Delight.
Practices
The farm adheres to old-school farming methods, emphasizing organic cultivation. Joe Francia believes that the traditional ways are healthier, and the family continues to work the land without modern mechanization, relying instead on time-tested techniques.
The Rest
The Francia Family operates a produce stand tucked behind houses and strip malls, surprising visitors with its unexpected location. Despite frequent offers from developers, the family remains committed to their land and way of life, refusing to sell. The produce stand is a local landmark, marked by a faded sign and a green field of corn.
