About the Farm

Background

Located in Kents Store, Virginia, on the Fluvanna/Louisa County Line, the farm has been serving the greater Charlottesville area since 2016. Owned and operated by Cody and Valerie Gillispie, it is known for raising Murray Grey beef cattle, pastured chicken and turkey, and heritage Berkshire pork. The farm store, conveniently located right off of Interstate 64, offers not only their own products but also some of their favorite local products.

Practices

The farm employs sustainable farming practices with a focus on pasture-based methods. Goats are grassfed in the spring, summer, and fall, with grain given only during milking. Their heritage-breed Berkshire pigs thrive on acorns, garden produce, and locally milled non-GMO hog feed. Pasture-raised chickens are supplemented with locally milled non-GMO grains and are moved daily to fresh pasture. The farm avoids the use of vaccines, antibiotics, hormones, or medications for their poultry. Murray Grey cattle are known for their ability to finish on grass alone, contributing to the farm's commitment to low-stress, high-quality animal care.

The Rest

The farm offers raw goat milk herdshares, goat milk soap, and registered dairy goat breeding stock. Delivery points are available in Charlottesville and Zion Crossroads, and farm visits can be arranged by appointment. They also provide subscription boxes with free delivery and additional discounts for subscribers.
