About the Farm
Background
Established by Rob and Nora Harvey in 1979, the farm originally operated as a dairy farm. After the dairy closed in 2003, the family was inspired by the local, sustainable food movement. In 2010, the next generation moved back to the farm and began raising grass-fed beef, gradually expanding into pastured poultry, eggs, and pork.
Practices
Utilizing Management Intensive Grazing, also known as Rotational Grazing, livestock are moved every 1-3 days to ensure fresh grass and allow the land to recover. This method enhances soil quality, grass health, and water cleanliness. Pigs and chickens are given organic or non-GMO feed whenever possible, while cows graze exclusively on pasture for their entire lives. The farm operates above and beyond organic standards with a focus on improving the health of the land, animals, and community.
The Rest
Products are available at the Hip Donelson and the Dekalb Farmers Markets, directly from the farm by appointment, or at various Nashville locations by arrangement. Offerings include individual cuts of meat and a CSA with a 20-22 lb monthly share of beef, pork, and chicken. Additional information and pricing can be found on the farm's website.
