About the Farm
Background
Established in 1994 as a wilderness lodge, the farm transitioned to peony farming in 2010. Located 40 miles northwest of Anchorage at the base of Mt. Susitna, it has grown to become one of the largest peony farms in Alaska. The Williams family has been the driving force behind this transformation, raising their four children and adapting to the demands of the Alaskan wilderness.
Practices
The farm's location at the base of Mt. Susitna provides natural protection and nourishment for the peony fields, with 14 feet of snow cover during harsh winters. Peonies are harvested by hand, chilled, and flown to a pack house facility at Anchorage International Airport, ensuring freshness and quality. The farm's hardy Alaskan peony root stock is also distributed to gardens around the country.
The Rest
The farm offers internships from June to September, providing accommodations and meals, as well as round-trip air transport from Anchorage. It is a destination for retreats, conferences, and weddings, offering backcountry hospitality and unique handcrafted creations made from burl, antler, and fur. Visitors can plan fly-in day excursions or extended stays to experience the beauty and creativity of the farm.
