About the Farm

Background

Located in Ferguson, Missouri, this farm operates on the oldest organic farm west of the Mississippi, originally spanning 200 acres and farmed by the Mueller Family since 1883. The farm became known for its chemical-free practices long before 'organic' was trendy. In the 1950s, Al and Caroline Mueller advanced natural farming methods, including using mules and ladybugs. After the Muellers, Molly Rockamann preserved the remaining 14 acres as an educational platform. Since 2008, it has grown into a nationally recognized leader in farming education.

Practices

The farm focuses on building healthy soil to grow healthy plants and feed healthy people, emphasizing organic farming methods. It acknowledges the indigenous knowledge of regenerative agriculture and practices responsible stewardship of resources. The farm encourages experimentation and inclusiveness, inviting people of all backgrounds to participate. It grows over 100 varieties of edible crops, including vegetables, tree fruits, herbs, and flowers, on over 2 acres, including high tunnels.

The Rest

The farm sells its certified organic produce at multiple farmers markets and to wholesale customers like restaurants and grocery stores. It operates a part-time Farm & Garden Apprenticeship program, offering hands-on training and education. The farm also emphasizes community building through shared work, good food, and land appreciation. Visitors can join tours to learn more about its history and operations.
