About the Farm

Background

Located in South Fort Myers, East Fork Creek is the southernmost commercial aquaponics farm in the United States. Known for its innovative farming methods, the farm has become a local sanctuary for the community, offering a variety of fresh produce and products since its inception.

Practices

East Fork Creek employs modern aquaponic systems, where nutrient-rich water from tilapia fish tanks is cycled through PVC pipe tables to nourish plants. This method uses less than 10% of the water required by conventional farming and eliminates the need for chemicals, herbicides, or pesticides. The farm also features a flourishing apiary and a free-range chicken coop, emphasizing a balanced ecosystem and sustainable land management.

The Rest

Visitors can shop at the farm market on Saturdays for aquaponic lettuce, raw honey, organic produce, and baked goods from local businesses. The farm also offers educational tours to the community, showcasing both aquaponic and soil-grown plants. Construction is underway for a new Education and Event Center, further enhancing the farm's role as a community hub.
