About the Farm
Background
Bob Egly's dream of raising cattle began in 2001 and has since grown to involve his son's family, Rob and Chris Egly, along with their grandchildren. The farm, located in Paw Paw, Michigan, spans 100 acres and is conveniently situated near Kalamazoo, Chicago, Northern Indiana, Niles, St. Joseph, and Grand Rapids. Known for their Red Devon cattle, the farm expanded in 2018 with the purchase of a fullblood Black Wagyu bull named Smegly. The farm prides itself on breeding, birthing, and raising all their animals on-site, ensuring no feeder calves are brought in from other farms.
Practices
The farm adheres to a philosophy of natural and environmentally friendly farming methods. They practice 100% grass-fed and grass-finished cattle raising, avoiding the use of corn or grains. The animals and fields are free from hormones, antibiotics, and pesticides. The farm employs rotational grazing, providing fresh pasture grass daily and controlling parasites naturally. Their planted pastures consist of alfalfa, legumes, and other high-quality grasses, and they ensure high-quality hay is available during the winter months. The farm is certified by the Michigan Agriculture Environmental Assurance Program (MAEAP) for both land and animal care.
The Rest
Visitors are encouraged to tour the farm to learn more about where their food comes from. The farm occasionally has individual cuts of beef available and offers breed stock for sale. Interested customers are advised to contact the farm to get on the order list.
