About the Farm
Background
Elmwood Stock Farm is a sixth-generation family farm situated on nearly 400 acres just outside Georgetown, Kentucky. The farm's history dates back to Cecil D. and Clara Bell at Bel-Clair Farm, near the old Lemons Mill in Scott County. Their farmstead, typical of the 1930s and 1940s, supported a family dairy cow, barnyard chickens, varieties of crops, and multiple livestock. Today, Cecil and Kay Bell reside at Elmwood Stock Farm, with their son John Bell overseeing vegetable production and pastured Berkshire pigs, and their daughter Ann Bell Stone managing the CSA Farm Share and poultry and sheep flocks.
Practices
Elmwood Stock Farm adheres to USDA Certified Organic standards, producing grass-fed, grass-finished beef and lamb, pasture-raised poultry and pork, and a variety of vegetables and fruits. The farm emphasizes regenerative agriculture practices, focusing on soil health, biodiversity, and ecological balance. Their methods include rotational grazing, cover cropping, and minimal tillage to maintain and improve the land's fertility and sustainability.
The Rest
Elmwood Stock Farm offers a variety of products through their CSA Farm Share and online store, including individual cuts of meat available for local pickup or shipping. The farm also provides educational resources on their website, including videos on organic farming practices and the importance of organic agriculture. Farm tours and a comprehensive online presence help connect consumers with the farm's practices and products.
