About the Farm

Background

Situated in the picturesque Pájaro Valley in Watsonville, CA, Esperanza Community Farms spans 3 acres and has established itself as a cornerstone in the local food system. Known for its commitment to increasing food security and promoting good health, the farm serves diverse socioeconomic backgrounds through its CSA membership. Additionally, the farm collaborates with three local high schools through its farm-to-cafeteria project and partners with the 9 Organic Farmer Coop to supply produce.

Practices

Esperanza Community Farms employs sustainable farming methods, focusing on cultivating fresh, pesticide-free vegetables and fruit varieties. The farm emphasizes the importance of culturally preferred produce, ensuring that the vegetables grown meet the needs and preferences of the community it serves. By working closely with the regional arts ecosystem and partnering with local organizations, the farm aims to localize the food supply chain and support small farmers-of-color through the 7 Plus Organics Coop.

The Rest

The farm's mission centers on promoting the consumption of fresh, local organic produce and economic justice in the Pajaro and Salinas Valleys, particularly for traditionally excluded communities. Their vision includes a healthy, localized food system based on food sovereignty, dignified work, and environmental stewardship. Potential CSA members can easily join by texting or emailing the farm, with options available for those receiving EBT or government assistance.
