About the Farm
Background
Fat Radish Farm has been growing rapidly, focusing on providing good wholesome food by getting back to the roots and working with nature.
Practices
The farm employs regenerative agricultural practices, avoiding all poisonous sprays. Natural soil amendments include compost, organic chicken manure, colloidal phosphate, organic kelp meal, greensand, organic alfalfa meal, azomite, aragonite, bio-char, and worm castings. Weed control methods involve woodchips, leaf mulch, straw, hand pulling, burning, and using livestock. Pest control strategies include attracting beneficial insects, planting decoy crops, succession planting, crop rotation, and hand picking. Water and irrigation practices utilize rainwater, deep well water, drip irrigation, hand watering, and raised bed designs. Animal welfare is prioritized with organic feed, no antibiotics, hormones, or vaccines, and ample space for animals to roam and forage naturally.
The Rest
The farm supplements animal feed with locally sourced organic feed from Reedy Fork Farm and ensures animals have unconfined access to pasture and forest. In adverse weather, animals are sometimes brought inside and cared for to ensure their well-being.
