About the Farm
Background
The journey began with a beekeeping class that led to the purchase of 8 hives, which grew to 11 by the end of the first year. Now, with over 300 hives, the apiary has established a reputation for quality products, winning blue ribbons at the State Fair. Before relocating to Minnesota, they were active in the Iowa Honey Producers Association and other local organizations.
Practices
The apiary participates in USDA and state surveys annually to ensure the health of their colonies and contribute to bee research. Their raw, unpasteurized honey comes from clover, prairie wildflowers, basswood, and aster, offering a variety of flavors and colors. They are committed to quality, integrity, and honesty in all their practices.
The Rest
They sell 3# packages of bees in April and 5 frame nucs in May/June, with a choice of Carniolan, Saskatraz, or Italian queens. Their product line includes raw honey, comb honey, bee pollen, beeswax candles, lip balm, body lotions, foot balm, and insect repellent. They are members of several organizations, including the American Beekeeping Federation, Minnesota Honey Producers, and the Xerces Society. They have been featured in publications like Bee Culture.
