About the Farm
Background
For over 15 years, this farm has been one of the earliest Icelandic sheep farms in North America, starting with sheep from Stefania Sveinbjarnarsdottir, Susan Mongold, and Barbara Webb. The farm's first lambing occurred 28 years ago with a group of 14 lambs, and since then, over 1000 lambs have been born. The farm has made significant improvements through the importation of semen from top rams in Iceland and the introduction of a non-invasive AI technique from Iceland.
Practices
The farm employs a natural approach to breeding, utilizing non-invasive artificial insemination techniques to enhance the genetics of their flock. Their chickens are organically fed, and their poultry is pasture-raised, ensuring high-quality meat and eggs. The farm also raises Pygora goats for meat and fiber, maintaining a high standard for breedstock quality.
The Rest
In addition to their livestock, the farm offers an information center for new shepherds, covering topics such as sheep health, lambing, and wool handling. They also have a farm store where customers can purchase their products, including meat, wool, and fiber. The farm is known for its Icelandic sheepdogs and offers puppies for sale.
