About the Farm
Background
Good Earth Farms is an extension of a 3rd generation family farm started by Marvin Lensing in 1950. The farm became organic in the year 2000 under the leadership of Marvin's son Roy and his wife Sandy. In 2021, the farm transitioned to Roy's son Kurt and his wife Megan who are currently operating Good Earth Farms. It is an honor to work on the same land and uphold the same traditional values as the generations that came before.
Practices
The farm employs an Intensive Rotational Grazing system for their beef herd, ensuring animals graze primarily on lush, tender pastures grown from soils receiving only natural amendments such as compost, green manures, and minerals. During winter months, the beef herd is fed dry hay made on the farm. Poultry is fed a certified organic feed ration supplemented with pasture grasses. The farm is committed to maintaining water quality and uses regenerative farming practices to keep the landscape intact, minimize erosion, and maintain a balanced ecosystem. The cows live a stress-free life, benefiting from wide open spaces, clean air, and freshwater sources, and are never given antibiotics, hormones, or unnatural additives.
The Rest
The farm is approximately 2 miles west of Milladore and centrally located between Marshfield, Stevens Point, Wausau, and Wisconsin Rapids. Farm visits are welcomed if scheduled in advance. The farm also features bee hives and adopts 100% recyclable packaging, working towards biodegradable plastics for meat packages. Customers can purchase beef as individual cuts year-round or in quarter, half, or whole animal quantities when ordered in advance. Poultry is processed at a USDA-inspected plant and sold as frozen, whole birds, available year-round.
