About the Farm

Background

Golonka Farm was started in 1956 by Bernard and Mary Golonka, beginning with cucumbers grown for the local pickle factory. Their youngest son, Jim, expanded over the years, moving from having a table and a few baskets on the front lawn to building the farm stand in the late 1980s. The farm started at about 20 acres, and after Mary and Bernie added more acreage, Jim and Jan purchased property behind the farm to save it from development, growing it to 60 acres. Jim operates the farm with his wife Jan, daughter Emma, a couple other family members, and a few hardworking staff.

Practices

The farm grows all its vegetables utilizing Integrated Pest Management (IPM) techniques. Jim keeps bees both for pollination and for the honey they produce, which is sold at the farm stand and throughout the year. Vegetables are picked fresh throughout each day to ensure customers receive the best tasting, highest quality produce.

The Rest

The farm is noted for its sweet corn but grows a large variety of other vegetables, which are offered at the farm stand. They like to try something different each year. The farm stand is open mid-June through mid-October, and they accept all major credit cards.
