About the Farm
Background
Located in Weare, New Hampshire, the farm has been Certified Organic since 1987. The land, historically farmed by the Cilley and Cram families in the 1800s, has been continuously cultivated for over two centuries. The current family began farming the land in 1996, building their home and greenhouses the following year. The land is under a conservation easement with the Piscataquog Land Conservancy.
Practices
The farm adheres strictly to organic principles, avoiding chemical fertilizers, pesticides, growth retardants, fungicides, or fumigants. All plants are started from seed in their own greenhouses using compost-based potting soil. They have transitioned to using certified organic compost-based potting soil from Vermont Compost in Montpelier, Vermont. The farm's south-sloping field and well-situated greenhouses provide ideal conditions for growing organic bedding plants.
The Rest
The farm sells seedlings by pre-order for pickup on Memorial Day weekend and participates in the Local Harvest CSA, supplying vegetables and fruits to about 250 families for 26 weeks a year. They grow primarily greenhouse tomatoes, herb seedlings, garlic, peaches, and some root crops for the CSA. The farm also offers an online store for plant orders with multiple payment options.
