About the Farm

Background

Grand Street CSA, organized in 2008, is a member-run, not-for-profit partnership between residents of Grand Street and neighboring blocks in Manhattan and regional farms. The main farm supplying the CSA is Norwich Meadows Farm, located in Norwich, NY. The CSA was established to bring fresh produce to the community and has been operating successfully since its inception.

Practices

The CSA operates by having members commit to shares of vegetables in early spring, paying the farm through the CSA. From June through November, farmers deliver locally grown, organic produce every other week to a designated distribution spot. Members are required to participate in distribution shifts, helping with setup, sign-in, and cleanup. The produce variety and amount vary based on the farm's actual harvest.

The Rest

In addition to vegetables, the CSA offers fish and flower shares, New York State organic maple syrup, wild-caught Alaskan salmon, and various local products throughout the season. The CSA relies on the work-contribution of its members to function, with each member expected to help unload the truck at least once during the season. The CSA honors the memory of Cathy Cicero of Circle C Maple, who was a long-time partner until her passing in October 2022.
