About the Farm
Background
Located in Pike County, Ohio, the farm spans rolling pastures, wooded hillsides, and wetlands. Leasing 150 acres to a Mennonite family for a grass-based dairy, the farm has diversified its operations to include Katahdin sheep and Red Devon cows.
Practices
The farm employs rotational grazing, moving livestock daily to ensure they are always on fresh grass. This practice not only maintains the health of the pasture but also results in docile animals, which enhances the taste of the meat. The Katahdin sheep and Red Devon cows are grass-fed, with the latter showing promising marbling in the steers being finished on grass.
The Rest
Katahdin grass-fed lamb is noted for its excellent eating quality. The farm anticipates testing its first Red Devon beef in the Spring of 2013, with high hopes for its flavor and tenderness.
