About the Farm
Background
Grateful Acres, established in 2012 by Scott and Karen, is a 200-acre farm located in Hurdle Mills, North Carolina. Both owners grew up on farms and fulfilled their lifelong dream by creating a farm that offers a variety of animals and produce to their community. Initially started for personal use, the farm expanded to share its bounty with the larger community, promoting local, sustainable agriculture.
Practices
Grateful Acres adheres to sustainable farming practices by raising animals humanely without the use of hormones, steroids, or antibiotics. The animals, including Berkshire pigs, Belted Galloway cattle, chickens, guineas, turkeys, and fainting goats, roam freely in pastures and woodlots, enjoying natural behaviors and diets. The farm's fruits and vegetables are grown without pesticides or chemicals, emphasizing a natural approach to agriculture. The farm also maintains a garden, orchard, and pollinator garden, fostering biodiversity and ecological health.
The Rest
Grateful Acres features a pollinator garden that attracts butterflies and beneficial insects, contributing to the farm's ecological balance. The orchard includes blueberries, strawberries, and various fruit trees, while the garden offers seasonally available produce. The farm's commitment to community is evident in their 'Farm Updates' page, where they share the latest happenings and developments on the farm.
