About the Farm
Background
Green Fire Farm LLC, established in 2015, is a regenerative farming venture led by a father-son team, Jim and Jacob Marty. Located in Green County, the farm has been stewarded by six generations of the Marty family since the 1850s, known for their work as dairymen, cheesemakers, farmers, and foresters. The farm began by converting a 50-acre corn field into a diverse pasture and has since expanded its livestock and silvopasture operations.
Practices
Green Fire Farm focuses on agricultural and lifestyle practices that regenerate and build soil, sequester carbon, and enhance the health of local water, air, and nutrient cycles by observing natural patterns. Livestock are managed to mimic their natural history and behavior, resulting in healthy animals and high-quality meat. The farm integrates perennial silvopasture plants like apples, chestnuts, mulberries, pecans, and mushrooms to create a resilient agro-ecosystem. They prioritize low-input, regenerative, and highly diverse polyculture systems.
The Rest
In their first year, Green Fire Farm introduced cattle, hogs, laying hens, and honey bees. They planted around 300 trees for a silvopasture trial and plan to expand their operations significantly. The farm offers farm-fresh meat delivered to various cities, emphasizing ethical treatment of animals and land, climate consciousness, and GMO-free products without hormones, steroids, or antibiotics.
