About the Farm
Background
Located in the verdant heart of Puget Sound, rural Vashon Island has been farmed continuously for over 100 years. Since 1997, the current stewards have cultivated this idyllic setting, transforming it into the first biodynamic CSA farm on Vashon. Over the years, they have become a cornerstone of the Vashon Farmers Market, offering a scrumptious selection of seasonal produce and farm-fresh treats. Celebrating 25 years of feeding friends and neighbors, the farm is a testament to the enduring agricultural legacy of the land.
Practices
The farm employs ecologically sustainable methods to grow healthy food, mimicking the diversity and resiliency of natural systems. They work with nature to manage insect and disease problems, relying on cover crops, compost, mulches, and animal helpers to create rich, healthy soils. Everything is grown using organic methods, ensuring that the produce is free from pesticide residues and other hidden costs of conventional agriculture. The farm's commitment to responsible stewardship of the land and respect for living systems is evident in every aspect of their farming practices.
The Rest
Farm products are available at the on-site farmstand, the Vashon Farmers Market, and through a CSA subscription. Everything sold is harvested, washed, and packed within 24 hours, guaranteeing freshness. The farm is run by Jasper, a lifelong veggie grower with degrees in Environmental Horticulture and Business Administration, and Will, a passionate advocate for sustainability. Visitors can find them at the Village Green in downtown Vashon during the market season, offering a direct connection to the source of their food.
