About the Farm
Background
Half Mile Acres has become known for their dedication to raising chickens and ducks in a way that prioritizes both animal welfare and the quality of their products. They offer whole chickens, various cuts, and eggs at the Bastrop 1832 Farmers Market and through local meet-ups.
Practices
Cornish X chickens are raised in chicken tractors from three weeks of age until slaughter at eight weeks, with the tractors moved daily to allow access to fresh grass and bugs. The chickens are fed a non-GMO diet free of soy, corn, antibiotics, and hormones, and have access to fresh, non-chlorinated well water. Laying hens forage freely from dawn to dusk and are similarly provided with a non-GMO feed and untreated well water.
The Rest
Customers can find their products at the Bastrop 1832 Farmers Market on Saturdays from 10am-2pm, with options to order ahead or arrange meet-ups in Giddings or Carmine.
