About the Farm
Background
Andrew and Becky Toothacker purchased the 160-acre Hart Farm in 2019, retaining its original name to honor the Hart Family's agricultural legacy. The couple met in their early 20s while apprenticing in Biodynamic agriculture on the East Coast. Their vision has brought a variety of produce, flowers, pork, beef, and on-farm dinners to the Greater Bangor Area.
Practices
Hart Farm employs organic and Biodynamic practices, viewing the farm as a holistic organism where fields, soils, plants, animals, compost, and people are interdependent. They emphasize soil health and the well-being of those who consume their food. In 2024, they plan to pursue Organic Certification through MOFGA.
The Rest
Hart Farm offers a CSA Program with Full and Partial Season Shares, Flower Shares, and deposits for half hogs. Members enjoy u-pick cherry tomatoes and a culinary herb garden, with flexible on-farm pickup days. The farm also donates 10% of its CSA membership to those in need and participates in local farmers' markets. They are accepting apprentice applications for 2024.
