About the Farm
Background
Hartland College, a four-year Christian Missionary institution, has been dedicated to training students from around the globe in various disciplines, with a particular emphasis on sustainable agriculture. The college's farm not only supplies the majority of the food consumed on campus but also engages in on-farm sales to the public and wholesale sales to local businesses in the Charlottesville area, including Integral Yoga, Rebecca's, C'Ville Market, and Horse and Buggy Produce.
Practices
The farm employs vegan growing practices, eschewing the use of any animal products or byproducts. All seed stock is free from genetic modification, and many of the varieties grown are heirloom breeds. This commitment to purity and tradition ensures high-quality produce year-round, cultivated in both greenhouses and fields.
The Rest
As a non-profit organization, all proceeds from the sale of produce are used to support the students at Hartland College. The farm grows over 90 varieties of fruits, vegetables, and herbs, offering a diverse and rich selection to both the campus and the local community.
