About the Farm
Background
The journey began with a couple who grew up on farms in Pennsylvania. In 1995, they moved to southern Iowa, bringing a few crossbred Angus/Limousin cows. By 2001, they restored a 1930's milking barn and opened the Harvest Barn Marketplace. Initially offering fresh produce and country-inspired gifts, they expanded to include hand-poured candles and homemade fudge. In 2006, they added all natural beef and pork products, and their daughter recently joined the family business.
Practices
The farm raises Angus/Limousin cross cattle, known for their lean yet beautifully marbled beef. Calves start on their mothers' nutrition and later graze on pastures, alfalfa grass hay, and corn grown on the farm. No growth hormones or antibiotics are used. The beef and pork are processed in a family-owned, USDA-inspected locker.
The Rest
The marketplace features a 6-acre corn maze, pumpkin patch, and other fall activities. The Osceola store is open seasonally, but products are available year-round online. Their meat products are also sold at local markets. The farm is family-run, with three children who share a love for farming.
