About the Farm

Background

The Hatcher Family Dairy has been in operation since 1819, with six generations continuing the farming tradition in Arno, Tennessee. In 2007, faced with the choice to sell or innovate, the family built their own creamery and bottling plant. They began selling locally and have since expanded to over 90 local shops and restaurants throughout Middle Tennessee. In 2021, the family was featured in a docu-series on Disney+, and in 2024, they installed Middle Tennessee’s first robotic milkers.

Practices

The farm employs rotational grazing, allowing cows to feed on fresh pasture year-round. The cows are primarily pasture-fed and are not supplemented with rBST. The milk is pasteurized and processed on-site at the Abe Hatcher Creamery, adhering to the Pasteurized Milk Ordinance. Non-homogenized whole milk is offered to maintain its natural state, while other milk products are homogenized. The farm also involves veterinarians and livestock nutritionists to ensure balanced nutrition for the cows.

The Rest

Visitors can explore the Hatcher Family Dairy Store, which offers dairy products, eggs, home-baked bread, and daily lunch. The farm's products are available at various locations throughout Nashville. The farm also features a picnic area, a coffee bar, and two Airbnbs. Despite the TV show not being renewed for a second season, the family remains resilient and continues to share their story through other avenues.
