About the Farm
Background
For over a decade, Heartbeat has provided fresh vegetables to the community through a CSA. In 2016, they expanded their mission by starting a small non-profit to incorporate more educational programs. Their mission focuses on providing educational experiences in simple living, cooperative culture, and sustainable agriculture.
Practices
Aligning their growing methods with natural processes, they rely on organic fertilizers and pest control, minimize soil disturbance, rotate crops, and include perennial polycultures. These practices aim to support a vital ecosystem and ensure long-term health for the community and environment.
The Rest
Heartbeat offers a variety of programs including a farmer training program, community workshops, and a CSA. They also host events like plant sales and workshops on topics such as creating vibrant pollinator gardens and canning sweet and savory jams. All organic produce is donated to local food pantries to address food insecurity. In the 2023 growing season, they harvested and donated 7,543 pounds of fresh organic produce to local families.
