About the Farm
Background
Founded in the spring of 2011 in Winchester, Connecticut, Heritage Gardens began with the principal mission of supplying fresh produce to local food banks and soup kitchens. Each year, they donate thousands of pounds of produce to hunger relief organizations in the Torrington-Winsted area. To support their mission and ensure long-term financial stability, they also run a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program and sell produce to several local markets.
Practices
Heritage Gardens employs an intensive raised bed system to grow dozens of varieties of over 40 different types of vegetables, herbs, and flowers. While not currently certified organic, they adhere to the National Organic Program standards and have signed the CT NOFA Farmer's Pledge.
The Rest
The farm's CSA program is well-received by the community, helping to sustain their mission of providing fresh produce to those in need.
