About the Farm
Background
The farm is a North Carolina Bicentennial Farm, farmed by the Herndon family for over 200 years. Approximately 75 acres are protected from development by a permanent conservation easement. Despite the surrounding area's shift from family farms to suburban neighborhoods, the farm remains a cherished part of the community, providing fresh, healthy fruit to neighbors and visitors.
Practices
All crops are USDA certified organic, ensuring that no synthetic pesticides or fertilizers are used. The farm's commitment to organic practices reflects a deep respect for the land and a dedication to producing nutritious, chemical-free fruit. The pick-your-own model fosters a direct connection between consumers and the source of their food, enhancing the appreciation for the labor and care involved in organic farming.
The Rest
Visitors are encouraged to come early to beat the heat and enjoy the easy picking of sweet blueberries. Children are welcome and can learn to pick fruit responsibly, though parents are advised to supervise them to prevent waste and damage to the farm. Parking reservations are required, and discounts are offered for returning customers who bring their own buckets.
