About the Farm
Background
High Meadows Farm was the first farm in New York to join the Animal Welfare Approved program. John Hussey, Laura Hussey, Ann Van Arsdale, and her daughter collaborate to raise Tamworth piglets. In 1995, they acquired their first Tamworth, a breed known as 'The Irish Grazer' according to the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy.
Practices
The farm employs a pasture-based system, emphasizing the welfare of their animals. Tamworth sows, known for being excellent mothers and good at suckling their litters, are well-suited for this setup. The farm's practices align with the standards of the Animal Welfare Approved program, ensuring high levels of care and humane treatment.
The Rest
Visitors are welcomed to see the sows and piglets, who are known to be crowd pleasers. The farm takes pride in their outdoor pasture pig operation and is happy to showcase their setup.
