About the Farm
Background
Horse Shoe Ranch began as a love of nature, the land, and a backyard flock, evolving into a stewardship of the land through livestock management. Located outside of downtown Lancaster, PA, this husband and wife team has cultivated a 17-acre farm, producing on 2 acres. They have grown over 75 varieties of vegetables, fruits, and herbs, and have become known for their organic, pasture-raised eggs. They offer a 30-member farm-based CSA that runs for 22 weeks starting in June, and they sell their produce to various restaurants in Lancaster city and York. Additionally, they participate in the East Side Market every Sunday in Musser Park.
Practices
Horse Shoe Ranch adheres to organic practices, ensuring that everything in their CSA is grown, planted, and harvested by hand. Their hens are truly pasture-raised, foraging all day on fresh grass and bugs, with mobile coops that are moved daily. The hens' diet includes chemical-free, non-GMO grain, and the farm prides itself on the quality of its eggs. Transparency is a key principle, allowing customers to trust in the origins and quality of their food.
The Rest
Horse Shoe Ranch hosts farm tours and various events throughout the season, fostering a connection between customers and their food. Every purchase supports the family and the future of the farm, emphasizing the importance of knowing your farmer to know your food.
