About the Farm
Background
Located in Southeast Raleigh, the IFFS Urban Farm serves as a demonstration site and training center in an area identified as a food desert. Partnering with Longview School, it functions as a Regional Outreach Training Center for Growing Power, an organization founded by MacArthur Genius Award winner Will Allen.
Practices
The farm is dedicated to producing its own compost and vermicompost, essential components for enriching the soil and promoting healthy plant growth. They are also in the process of building an aquaponics system, which integrates fish farming with plant cultivation, creating a symbiotic environment that maximizes resource efficiency. A large community garden on site further enhances local food production and community engagement.
The Rest
Visitors are encouraged to explore the farm and witness firsthand how urban farming can combat hunger. The farm's mission extends beyond food production to include feeding neighbors, teaching self-sufficiency, and growing healthy foods, all while cultivating innovative approaches to end hunger.
