About the Farm
Background
Before having children, Pete and his partner were leading unhealthy lifestyles, which changed dramatically after the birth of their first child. They began researching healthy food and decided to grow their own vegetables. Starting in 2013 with a 3000 sqft garden in their front yard, they expanded their efforts in 2015 to serve a larger community, officially founding Isle Acre Farms. Pete left his 20-year career as a paramedic in 2017 to become a full-time farmer, and the farm has since grown to 2 acres of vegetable production in the middle of the city.
Practices
The farm grows vegetables without the use of chemical sprays, relying entirely on hand cultivation. This approach ensures that the produce is free from the 200 different chemicals allowed in government-approved certified organic food. The farm emphasizes knowing your farmer personally or growing your own food to ensure safety and quality.
The Rest
Isle Acre Farms offers a variety of educational and recreational activities, including classes for kids and adults, birthday parties, farm tours, and group events. They also have a Farm Stand open on Wednesdays from 3-6 pm. Starting in May 2024, the farm will offer 'pick your own' vegetable sessions, with reservations required to manage the availability of produce and ensure a quality experience for visitors. Admission for picking is $5 per person, including babies under 1 and non-pickers, with a maximum group size of six people.
